Sophia's Story by Camille
My sweet 11 year old Sophia was diagnosed with lymphoma, and also had a tumor mass in her intestines. I was first alerted that something was wrong, when she was failing to eat - a kitty who was normally ravenous. In addition her level of activity declined rapidly. She made a trip to the vet, who felt the mass and detected that it was 99% lymphoma. We then determined this by an ultrasound. I elected not to do a biopsy because the tumor mass was so large. the vet indicated that surgery and chemotherapy would be the only options, and at that I might only have a 3-8 month life extension.
Due to her weakened state, I elected not to do surgery - unless she could put some weight on to strengthen her. Outcome to Date Sophia was put on prenisolone and fluid injections. She at first made a comeback in terms of appetite, though never to her normal level. I spent weeks coaxing her to eat and even at that, she continued to loose weight. After 4 weeks, she had declined in weight and energy, and made noises to indicate she was in pain. I had to euthanize my dear companion and soul mate on July 10th. I am heartbroken beyond belief... and shocked at how quickly she declined despite efforts to strengthen her.
