Fluffy's Story
by Kayla Moore

Fluff is 4 years old and has been diagnosed with lymphoma in her small intestine. I bought fluffy from a breeder at 4 months old or so. She's a perfect little bundle of joy! Over the first year or so she started vomiting very often. I took her to the vet, they said it was just hairballs- change food, add hairball gel. Nothing worked, different foods just made her more picky, the hairball gel helped a little bit but not enough. The vet offered xrays and other tests, but at the time I was so young (19) that I didn't have that kind of money or ever think something could be seriously wrong with my cat. I never did anything and just accepted the fact that she puked a few times a week. She never weighed more than 6lbs and some ounces. Eats and goes to the restroom normally, I never felt anything was truly wrong with her. Recently I felt a lump on her right side (about the size of an egg) so I took her to a Cat Clinic here in town. I honestly think it had been there awhile-I just assumed it was her tummy when she was full. The vet was pretty unsure at first about what it was and asked permission to preform an x-ray. I of course said sure, she took Fluffy out of the room. An x-ray was never done, instead she took Fluffy to the Vet that had been there for 20+ years, and claimed it was Lymphoma, no other tests needed to be done. i was confused but trusted their advice. They started her on 10mg of Prednisolone per day for a week then 5mg for a week then 1/2 tab after that. She went for her 2 week check up and the tumor had shrunken about 1/4 in size. The vet said to keep her on the 1/2 tab of Prednisolone and would see her again in a couple weeks. This made me feel uneasy so I decided to take her to an Internal Med Specialist and have an ultrasound done.

July 25, 2013: Fluffy's appt. with the Internal Medicine Specialist. She took her to do the ultrasound and came back with some disturbing news. She said "Fluffy has a mass wrapped around a portion of her small intestine that is causing a partial obstruction of food/fluid through the intestines. At least 12 cm of the intestines connected to this area are also diseased and have a think wall and are dilated (too full of fluid). She also has lymph nodes in this area that are enlarged. A small amount of free fluid is seen in the abdomen." She said the fine needle aspirate didn't pull anything out of the mass except inflammation and bacteria. She said surgery is ultimately needed to remove all the abnormal tissue and submit to a pathologist for evaluation. I am going to have the surgery performed next week and just praying and hoping my baby girl will be okay! The doctor said even with the operation she gives her 6 month+ to live. :( I'm so scared!
